Today (14th Sep 2012) marked an important milestone in HIV care for the pregnant mothers and infants, with the launching of a new drug regimen for prevention of parent to child transmission of HIV initially in two states, one being Andhra Pradesh. The formal launch by National AIDS Control Organization (NACO), took place at Ravindra Bharathi, Hyderabad amid packed audiences and enthusiastic functionaries representing various levels of health care planning and delivery.

Epidemiology is the cornerstone of Community Medicine where the disease distribution and its determinants in a specified population-time paradigm are studied to identify the priorities in public health. Having an understanding of various concepts of epidemiology is one thing, and ability to deliver the message across is another thing. This resourceful website helps to bridge this gap.

Abstract   Surveys are an indispensable tool for many during their research studies carried out at the Community Medicine Department. Depending on the sample size and the number of team members, the collection of data may be a tedious process. Online collaborative tools like Google Docs can be used to facilitate development of survey instrument, online collection and entry of data, data cleaning and analysis. A recent survey conducted by the Community Medicine Department, Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad, highlights the utility of Google Docs for collaborative research.

Commemorating World Health Day 2012, the Community Medicine Department, Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad is conducting a mega health camp at AK Plaza Function Hall, Near Ali Cafe, Amberpet, Hyderabad on 7th April, 2012. In line with the theme of this year's WHD, Ageing and Health - Good health adds life to years , we are conducting a household survey in the adjoining under-served areas with a special emphasis to the health status of elderly from 1st to 5th April, 2012 with the participation of interns and undergraduate students. With this current survey, we would like to enable the students to experience what collaborative research can achieve, in terms of identifying the changing demographic and morbidity patterns in our local community and compare it with the national and global trends.
